IxD Project: Final Project Overview

Image
Self-Evaluation In my opinion, I think this assignment is quite interesting as this is my first time trying an interactive installation project. Not to mention, there are a lot of new knowledge and skills that I’ve learned on this project because this is far way different from the previous assignment. Although this project still has wide space for improvements, I think I tried my best to achieve what I’ve expected to achieve. I’m quite happy because I get to explore visual coding, for instance experimenting with different formulas to achieve different outcomes. Besides, I also understand that different (smooth time) could determine the movement of lines whether it is wavy or not. If this project is being brought further for improvements, I could say that the visuals of graphics can be better and the animations of the graphics can be more natural. Other than that, it is more engaging if the installation can be set up in a bigger form that invites multiple users to interact with it. Duri...

IxD Project: Audio & Bibliography

Image
Composing Music in Adobe Audition In order to achieve a better atmosphere for the overall user experience, I've tried to compose my own music by combing all the SFX together. For the morning circle,  I combine the sound effect of crows, chirping of birds to create a morning atmosphere together with a soothing bgm. For the city, I've combined SFX of kopitiam, streets, cars, temples, and mosques. For the night circle, I've combined SFX of honking and bells of ships. IxD Project: Floor Projection Mapping Setup (Critics & Refinement)

Image
Floor Projection-Mapping Setup Critics & Feedbacks There was a critic session held to get feedbacks and critics from peers and lecturers. I will list down all the critics below. First of all, the animations take too much time. It does not have a rigid reason for the user to continue stepping within the circles because there are no animations playing and the feedback from the lines is too subtle. It was suggested to add some narrations to let users know what's the purpose of the graphics and animations. They should know what's the point standing and stepping around the circle. I should cut down the time and add some audio to improve the overall atmosphere.  Secondly, the feedback from the lines is too subtle. It's not inviting enough. Thus, I should tweak the formula and smooth time in order to get instant feedback when the user steps on it. For right now, I should minimize the smooth time to get very engaging feedback.  Thirdly, I was suggested to take out the looping o...

IxD Project: Production Process (Coding Design Development)

Image
Design Development This project is very challenging than usual because it uses visual coding which is very new to me. Before starting the visual on coding, I've tried to develop some visual to see how it looks like. I've tried to see and compare how does the circles will look like if added with dotted circles. Lines without Dotted Circles Lines with Dotted Circles Unfortunately, these designs look bad because I feel they look like Indian Diwali and it doesn't match with the overall look and feel that I want.  Design Development with Coding Formation of Circles with Joints At the very first stage, I've learned something very interesting which is creating circles using coding. This is very new to me as I never explore this kind of coding before. This feels like bringing back to my secondary life whereby the formula and calculations to create a perfect circle is being implemented now on coding. From this coding, I've understood that by instantiating the joints, it will...

IxD Project: Production Process (Storyboard & User Flow)

Image
Storyboard User Flow At first, layering of lines will appear on the floor, inviting the user to step on it. When the user steps in the middle, the lines will start to expand. Animations of crows and audio will play. The first artifact will last for 45 seconds. Within 45 seconds, the lines will move according to the user's movement but the movements are very subtle. Three different artifacts have different feedback of line movements. After 45 seconds, the first artifact will slowly fade out while the second artifact will slowly fade in. The animation of the forming of the city will also appear. The lines will move accordingly to the movement of the user. By this time, the lines will move more vigorously as the user steps on them. The graphic of the city will remain static. After 45 seconds, the second artifact will slowly fade out while the third artifact will slowly fade in. The animations of bird/cargo ship will play. After 45 seconds, if the user remains on the artifact, it will ...

IxD Project: Ideation & Project Concept

Image
Idea & Concept Step Back in Time This project is basically to portray the authenticity of Klang by using the graphics of layering of lines which indicates time is stacking over years and years. Thus, the changes of a day in Klang will be shown through floor projection mapping. When the user steps on it, it will trigger the animations and they can see the changes of Klang from morning to night. There will be different graphic assets to represent the key visual of Klang. For example, silhouette of crows, abstract form of city and port Klang. Users will get to experience the changes of visuals with audio and SFX when they are stepping within the circle. Besides, the user can also step on the lines and interact with the lines to stimulate a fluid-like motion between the lines. This is to create feedback within the spatial space.   Idea 1 1.The installation is displayed in a space(room without doors) whereby outside the room is a waiting area for the tourists 2.The room is busy...
