Movie that I've watched : Jungle Book , Nightmare before Christmas

After I've watched the movies, I conclude into two themes which are forest , halloween and christmas. I plan to propose a platformer game with different challenges so that the user can interact with different elements inside the game to keep them motivated. 

First Idea

Story

The first idea is based on the jungle theme.It's more likely on jungle adventurous game. Tarzan is the main character in the game. He lives happily with the animals in the jungle for years. He is trained to be the king of Jungle. One day, the animals in the jungle were hunted by the hunters for human needs. The hunters set traps and hide in the bushes in order to hunt their target. Tarzan was very angry with their act and couldn't understand why humans can be so selfish to fulfill their needs. In order not witnessing his animal friends to be killed, he has to save the animals that are being trapped. This is where the adventurous journey starts.

Interaction

The basic movement is left, right jump and attack. Along the way, there are hunters shooting and mini traps which will cause Tarzan to lose his life. He has to overcome different challenges in different part of game in order to save the animals. Besides that, Tarzan can swing , climb and swim in the jungle throughout the game.

Second Idea

Story

The second idea talks a story about Mowgli.( main character in Jungle Book) He is still a young boy that is still unknown with the world outside. Besides that, he is always trained by Bagheera ( black panther) in order to survive in the jungle.Unfortunately, he is chased away by the other animals in the jungle. In order to prove himself, Mowgli has to overcome many challenges to stay in the jungle.

Interaction

There are many different scenes in the game. Whenever Mowgli reaches a scene, he has given different tasks to accomplish. The first scene is a mini jungle for Mowgli to find his mission. The first mission is to help the bear collecting honey. There are many obstacles when collecting the honey. The second mission is the find the hidden animals. There will be many distractions so the player has to focus in order to find em'all. The last mission is to solve some puzzles. The animals are tied with ropes. In order to save them. player have to think a way to cut the rope.

Third Idea

Story

The third idea is based on halloween theme. The third idea shares the same concept with the first idea whereby it's also another adventurous game. The story begins with the preparations for Halloween party because Halloween is around the corner. Little Reaper has prepare three pumpkins to join the party. Unfortunately, they had been stolen by the ghosts. Player has to help little reaper to collect back the three hidden pumpkins in order to join the party!

Interaction

The basic movement of the game is left, right, jump , up and down (diving). The map is seperated into three different world which is spooky halloween town, ghost mansion, underwaterworld in order for the player to explore and experience different type of interactions. The main character is a reaper which has given three life to complete his journey. Whenever he interferes with the enemies, one life will be deducted. Thus, player has to challenge themselves to collect all the pumpkins.

Chosen Idea

The third idea is being chosen. I've changed the story to make it more interesting. This is to create a better impression of this story.

Further Developed Story 

Little Reaper has five pumpkin friends. They live happily together in Spooky Town and share memorable moments together for years. The five pumpkin friends of Little Reaper always assist him and being supportive whenever he needs help.One day, the five pumpkins were helping Little Reaper to prepare Spooky Party because Halloween was around the corner. It's a big celebration in Spooky Town where everyone in the town has to take part in this event. Unfortunately, three ghosts passed by and spotted the five pumpkins which were busying preparing the party. The ghosts were hungry and decided to catch them as their dinner. The spirit of the pumpkins were taken away by the ghost and became very obedient to the ghosts. The pumpkins were hidden separately because the three ghosts live in different area in Spooky Town. When Little Reaper realized that the five pumpkins were gone, he was very angry and panic. He had to save his friends and make the wonderful Halloween Party possible again! 

Rationale

In this globalization era, everybody wishes to have an easy life. Unfortunately, we will have difficulties in achieving things that we want. It is very rare for us to get things easily without paying any effort or hard work. As the saying goes, ‘success is stumbling from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm’. We surely will go through lots of failure in order to succeed. By having this concept in mind, I’ve created a platformer game whereby every part of the game have different obstacles. Besides that, the difficulties of the game are intentionally set to be higher. The purpose is to let the player to work hard on overcoming the difficulties throughout the game while completing his mission. This game is not meant to be easy. The reason is because the main core of game is to have fun passing all the difficulties which have been purposely set on the game. Throughout the research on the reviews of gameplay from the gamer, I’ve realized gamers have to keep on replaying the game in order to collect or complete their task. Besides that, The aim of the game is not set just only for the player to complete the mission to win the game , but it’s for the player to have a satisfaction on their achievements for winning the game after lots of effort are paid off. On top of that, the player can understand that goals can’t be easily achieved if we don’t pour our blood, sweat and tears to accomplish it.

The map of the game is separated into three different area which are spooky town, underwaterworld and ghost mansion. Different worlds have different difficulties to overcome which act as a driving force for the player to continue the game. The target audience of this game is mainly focus on teenagers or adults who ranged between 13-35 years old. It would be more suitable for experience gamers as some of the interactions of the game need some skills in order to complete the task. In the beginning of the game, the player is being told about the story and an instruction for the user to proceed the game. The basic movement control is left, right, jump and up down.( diving purpose ) I separated the spawn points to four different position according to the different sections of the game. There are various enemies and obstacles being created such as bones, ghost, spikes, sea creatures, piranha and swinging path in the game to prevent repetition. Thus, player will encounter different interactions along their way. Furthermore, there are animations and sound effects added to enhance the gaming mood and feeling. There are subtle animations on the background of the game, for example the bubbling part in the underwater, plants bending left right, piranha opening and closing , creatures moving and etc.. There is also animations on the character when running, jumping , diving and lastly idling. Last but not least, the design of the game uses vector design with gradient so that there’s a bit flow of hierarchy and doesn’t look flat and dull. The design of each scene are interconnected and uses the same colour scheme to mantain the consistency.
